Resting Place

Champagne Castle Hotel was once your Happy Place. Now more than five months since you passed, Russ, it will be your final resting place. Your ashes cast into the little stream on Mike’s Path, one of our favourite walks. Together with your Mom and Dad, you will be where once your feet had trod. Your eyes no more will see the magnificent mountains, of your beloved Drakensberg on a misty morning or all aglow with the setting sun. You will no longer breathe in or smell fresh mountain air. Never again will your boot-clad feet stride along the winding paths, leading to Fern Forest, Crystal Falls or The Sphinx. But may you rest peacefully, amid the green of ferns and grass, tiny wild flowers and berries, beneath the shade of splendid old trees, in which eagles may roost, and call from on high in the sky of blue. Where the sound of running water brings life to nature’s own piece of heaven. We had many visits together here, during the years from our honeymoon, until the last one, in the year you died. Even though you may not again enjoy an earthly visit to the berg you loved so much, may your ashes rest in peace. Here, where our hearts will often come to fondly remember you constantly, in your forever happy place. We love and miss you still. We always will. Your family, waiting to spend eternity with you some day in heaven.
